Toyota made many changes with the new 2017 refresh, but unfortunately for cars imported into the US and Canada, they didn’t change the ugly orange side markers that disrupt the clean lines of the fenders. Fortunately, popping out the old side markers is very simple and there are many aftermarket options to swap them with.
The first option are the clear side markers Toyota puts on their cars overseas in Japan. This means it’s a genuine OEM part imported directly from Japan. These authentic JDM clear housings cleans up the flow of the fender and it’s 3D design makes it more visible from the front.
But if you’re not worried about an authentic JDM side marker, and want something a bit cheaper, you should check out the offerings from Helix. Not only do their side markers retain the JDM 3D design but they offer them in clear, light smoke, and smoke styles.
If you choose to go with the JDM or Helix side markers we highly recommend upgrading to OLM LED bulbs. They not only produce a brighter light, but give the upgraded housing a much cleaner look.
There are two colors available. A white bulb that produces 220 lumens and an amber bulb that has LEDs on the front and side for a full 360 illumination of the housing. They simply plug in where the factory bulb was, so there is no wiring required.
The last side marker option available, already has LED built in. GCS made a fresh new take on the traditional side marker with their very unique LED design.
And those LEDs serve two functions. There are two amber side facing LEDs as well as a forward facing white LED light bar. They’re available in either a smoked or clear style, but they don’t have the same plug and play compatibility as the OLM LEDs. So a basic understanding of wiring is need for installation.
Installation of the side markers is very simple and all you’ll need is a short Phillips and Flathead screwdriver. For a detailed installation instructions check out our YouTube video.
