How to make winter driving less stressful and more enjoyable
For us, winter is very enjoyable for the first couple weeks. But the enjoyment soon disappears after defrosting the car every morning, dealing with road salt slowing eating your car away, and navigating through horrible drivers that act like they’ve never driven on snow before. We’ve picked out 8 simple mods that will make your winter driving a little more bearable and maybe even make you smile. Click on the link or the picture to learn more about each mod.
Heated wide angle side mirrors
Clearly some people can’t drive, and it gets even worse when the roads get slick. These mirrors will increase your side mirror visibility by up to 40%, drastically reducing your blind spot. You’ll never have to worry about these mirrors frosting over, because they simply melt everything away. These are a must have to keep you safe this winter.
It’s inevitable that snow and dirt will get tracked into your car. Even if you take the time to knock the crap off your shoes every time before you get in, your passengers may not be as courteous. Using floor mats to keep your interior clean throughout the winter not only reduces the amount of cleaning come spring time, but also helps hold the resale value better. Think about it as an investment for your future time and money.
Mud Flaps (or in this case Snow Flaps)
Salt does horrible things to cars. Unfortunately, this time of year roads are covered in the stuff. Mud flaps help keep corrosive salt and other debris from the road off your car. Saving your sheet metal and paint, while keeping your exterior cleaner.
Normally, tow hooks are good to have just in case, but no one actually wants to put them to use. That all changed when Raceseng added a GoPro mount to their tow hooks. Now you might actually want to use it to record a track day, exhaust clip, or even some rear bumper snow drifting angles. But it will always be there if you need help getting pulled out of a ditch.
Hella Horn Kit
Winter brings out the worst in drivers, so be prepared. This horn screams “GET OUT OF MY WAY!” at a sound level of 118 Db. No one will listen if you don’t speak up.
Fog Light Kit
Not every FRS and BRZ came equipped with factory fog lights, but they’re vital in low visibility conditions. Aftermarket fog light kits are an easy installation and they’re much cheaper than the factory’s option.
Not only will these pedals help you heel toe downshift smoother due to the wider accelerator pedal, but they offer a slip resistant material to keep your snowy shoes in place.
E-brake drift button
You own a rear wheel drive car. We know you want to at least get it a little bit sideways before all the snow melts. One press of the button lets you rip all the drifts til your heart’s content. But press it again and it turns back to a regular mature handbrake. This is the cheapest mod on this list, but it makes the most amount of smiles. At under $25, there aren’t any reasons not to get one before the snow melts.
